New Results on Nucleosynthesis in Massive Stars; Nuclear Data Needs for Nucleosynthesis
نویسندگان
چکیده
We review the current status of the nuclear reaction rates needed to study nucleosynthesis in massive stars. Results for the calculated nucleosynthesis of all stable species from Hydrogen to Bismuth in a completely evolved 25 M star of initial solar metallicity will be presented. Special emphasis will be paid to two particular reactions, C( ) O and Ne( ) Mg, and their effect on the structure of the star and resultant nucleosynthesis. Both have been measured many times, but the present range of experimental uncertainty translates into remarkable sensitivity of the calculated nucleosynthesis.

Dependence of S-process Nucleosynthesis in Massive Stars on Triple-alpha and C(α, Γ)o Reaction Rate Uncertainties
We have studied the sensitivity of s-process nucleosynthesis in massive stars to ±2σ variations in the rates of the triple-α and C(α, γ)O reactions. We simulated the evolution of massive stars from H-burning through Fe-core collapse, followed by a supernova explosion. We found that: the production factors of s-process nuclides between Fe and Zr change strongly with changes in the He burning rea...
متن کاملA New Study of s-Process Nucleosynthesis in Massive Stars
We present a comprehensive study of s-process nucleosynthesis in 15, 20, 25, and 30 M stellar models having solar-like initial composition. The stars are evolved up to ignition of central neon with a 659 species network coupled to the stellar models. In this way, the initial composition from one burning phase to another is consistently determined, especially with respect to neutron capture reac...
متن کاملCosmological Nucleosynthesis in the Big-Bang and Supernovae
Recent observation of the power spectrum of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Radiation has exhibited that the flat cosmology is most likely. This suggests too large universal baryon-density parameter Ωbh2 ≈ 0.022 ∼ 0.030 to accept a theoretical prediction, Ωbh2 ≤ 0.017, in the homogeneous Big-Bang model for primordial nucleosynthesis. Theoretical upper limit arises from the sever constraints o...
متن کاملMeasuring Cosmic Elements with Gamma-Ray Telescopes
Gamma-ray telescopes are capable of measuring radioactive trace isotopes from cosmic nucleosynthesis events. Such measurements address new isotope production rather directly for a few key isotopes such as Ti, Al, Fe, and Ni, as well as positrons from the β-decay variety. Experiments of the past decades have now established an astronomy with γ-ray lines, which is an important part of the study o...
متن کاملRadioactive 26Al from the Scorpius-Centaurus association
Context. The Scorpius-Centaurus association is the most-nearby group of massive and young stars. As nuclear-fusion products are ejected by massive stars and supernovae into the surrounding interstellar medium, the search for characteristic γ-rays from radioactivity is one way to probe the history of activity of such nearby massive stars on a My time scale through their nucleosynthesis. 26Al dec...
